FAQs

General Information

What is Abandoned Pet Rescue (APR)?

Abandoned Pet Rescue is Fort Lauderdale’s NO-KILL animal shelter, dedicated to rescuing and sheltering abandoned and abused pets, then finding them loving homes. APR cares for up to 100 cats and 35 dogs daily in a facility with free-roaming cat rooms, air-conditioned dog kennels, a play yard, and an onsite veterinary clinic.

When and how did APR start?

APR began in 1996 when a group of volunteers who were trapping, neutering and releasing community cats saw the need to help abandoned pets. They registered APR as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, funded entirely by donors and grants. Donations are tax-deductible.

Where is APR located?

📍 1137 NE 9th Avenue, Fort Lauderdale

What are APR’s hours?

Open 7 days a week, 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM.
