Last year, Abandoned Pet Rescue began a partnership with on-going donor Peter Logudice to underwite the Zachary Serra Scholarship, designed to support the efforts of students desiring to pursue education in the shelter and veterianry fields.
At the same time APR began another partnership, this one with the organization Arc Broward that’s mission is to provide opportunities for people with disabilities and other life challenges. APR became the job-training location for Arc Broward’s accredited Animal Care Certificate Program that trains individuals with disabilities for employment in animal-related career fields.
Averi Taylor is the instructor of this program and has taught four-classes of students about animal care that includes hands-on experience working with the cats and dogs at Abandoned Pet Rescue. Averi is a wonderful instructor for this program because of her love and knowledge of animals.
Averi, who is originally from Maine, graduated from the University of Maine with a degree in pre-veterinary medicine. Her time working, and also many hours volunteering at APR, resparked her passion for animal welfare and she recently enrolled in the University of Florida’s Shelter Medicine program. She will graduate in the Spring of 2025.
On top of schooling and her full-time job, Averi serves our country as a Corporal in the Florida Army National Guard and is always on call to report to duty when needed.
APR and Mr. Logudice are pleased to present the 2023 Zachary Serra Scholorship to Averi Taylor.
