15 year old Cookie is home! She got ADOPTED!! Cookie was featured three times on Susie’s Senior Dogs, a national scoial media site that promotes senior dogs. It wasn’t until the third post that she finally received some attention.
Cookie is an Italian Greyhound mix. Cookie’s life was turned upside down when her mom was evicted from her home and taken to a homeless shelter where she died of a heart attack (according to her neighbors). A kind woman found Cookie aimlessly walking in the street. She rescued her and contacted APR to help.
Cookie has dementia, which has some resulting side effects, and she is also considered a “long term hospice” case. So, @abandonedpetrescue reached out for help in sharing her story. Cookie was comfortable, stable and happy but her list of ailments was not attracting adopters.
However, when Cookie’s story reached Dawn she was undeterred by Cookie’s bio and suggested life expectancy. Dawn has been down this road before and knew she could give Cookie the love she needed at this vulnerable, end-of-life stage. We are so thankful to Dawn!!
Dawn updates, “Cookie is doing so great! I feel so blessed to have this little angel. She’s literally the miniature version of my whippet mix who passed six months ago. I had my Whippet mix for 16 years and she passed at the end of last year. So I gained experience with dementia, incontinence, blindness, and loss of hearing.”
“Then my cat of 16 years just passed in February. Needless to say, my last six months have been a lot of grieving. I gained a new respect for senior pets and knew when I was ready. I’d love to help others live out the best rest of their lives.”
“I must say I was not quite ready but when I saw Cookie’s picture I flipped because she is literally the miniature version of my last dog! I saw it late one night on Facebook and immediately wrote to everyone I could about her.”
