One of our young supporters hopes to be a writer one day. Recently, he was sitting with some friends and asked them to, “give me two words and in 15 minutes I will create a poem about those words.”
Here is “Kitty Litter” by Jason Guagliardo. We hope you enjoy it!
The sound of pieces tumbling about in the paper bag package,
Like tiny stones in a dust and bicarbonate-scented avalanche.
A nose wrinkling as the pan rises from the floor,
Sounding with a dull thump as plastic meets counter.
Soft scraping sifts through the gravelly ocean,
Parting waves of soiled particles.
And then, a fresh beginning!
A nuzzling at the cuff of some worn jeans.
A clinking of tools sound almost like pouring rice as the pan is replenished.
