Please complete the volunteer application/liability waiver: abandonedpetrescue.org
You must attend the dog walking training, which is typically held on the last Sunday of every month at 2PM at Abandoned Pet Rescue. You must be at least 21 years of age to handle dogs. Once you complete the volunteer application, you will be contacted via E-mail to sign up for the dog walking training. Space is limited in each class. Sneakers are required to be worn any time you’re handling dogs.
Once you completed the dog walking class, walkers are also required to do one supervised dog walk with an experienced volunteer or staff member before handling dogs on your own.
You will be asked about comfort level in handling big or small dogs or both and will be given access to the Volunteer Portal to sign up for your dog walking shift(s).
Dog walking shifts are available several times a day, each day of the week plus Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Volunteers are encouraged to sign up for a set shift(s) (ie. every Friday at noon) on the Volunteer Portal. If you don’t have a set schedule, then we ask you sign up for an available shift at least two days in advanced on the Volunteer Portal.
Events take place every month and needs are advertised by e-mail and on our Facebook page. Once you compete the class, you may offer to volunteer for an event by emailing us at volunteer@abandonedpetrescue.org to express your interest in a particular event and by providing your name and phone number. We will let you know within a week of your inquiry if your service is needed for the event. Don’t be discouraged if the volunteer positions are filled for a particular event as many more opportunities will be available.
Thank you for volunteering and for helping APR’s adoptable dogs!
