Angus, affectionately known as Gus, is an 8 1/2-year-old Black Mouth Cur mix. Gus spent a week with a volunteer who described him as a perfect house guest. He is exceptionally well-mannered, gentle, and polite in the home. He loves meeting kids and is gentle with them. He's goofy and has a playful side as well as being laidback. He weighs 90lbs and is just a big baby that loves to suckle on his bed and blankets. Austin, a three-year-old shepherd mix, has a sweet and affectionate personality with a very silly goofy side. He loves to give hugs, get belly rubs and play fetch! Austin is about 40lbs of fluff. Beautiful Bella is a mature Husky with one blue eye and one brown. This sweet girl had spent a lot of her youth stuck in a crate, and then in the next home, she spent several years living outside in the Florida heat. Bella knows her next and final home will be one that treats her like the queen she is! Bella is chunky at 115lbs, but she is working on her figure and walks surprisingly well given her weight. Chestnut is just the cutest little spunky Chihuahua puppy that loves to play and be in your lap. He hides under the covers to keep his little 7lb body warm and pops his head out when he hears your voice. Chestnut is about six months old and is an overall healthy puppy, but he does have a mild case of a condition called Hydrocephalus. This condition is caused when cerebrospinal fluid builds up in the brain and dogs with mild cases may lead normal lives, but it is impossible to know if he will have complications later in life. Chestnut is part of Abandoned Pet Rescue's medical adoption program which qualifies him to receive veterinary care at our shelter if needed for this condition if it progresses. His head does bobble a little from this, but it doesn't stop him from being a happy, active puppy. Cheshnut is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. Cooper is a big squish boy that loves to press himself into your arms for hugs! He is very smart and received extensive training thanks to the organization Magic City K9 that accepted Cooper into their unique training program. Cooper was living with his trainer at Everglades Correctional Facility in Miami where Magic City K9 offers its program to give inmates and dogs a second chance to thrive. Cooper has learned many commands (more than 40!). He was friends with most dogs in the training class, but needs a proper introduction to make dog friends. Cooper is a big softie once he knows you, but can be nervous around strangers, so he needs time to trust new people or a low traffic home is best. Geraldine looks like an Alaskan Klee Kai, which is a breed known for its smarts and beauty! This 1-year-old pup is on the smaller side at 37lbs of playfulness. Hello, I'm Sampson. It's a delight to make your acquaintance. I hold the record for being the longest resident dog at Abandoned Pet Rescue. Spending almost six years in a shelter is quite a long time for a majestic 10 1/2-year-old German Shepherd like me. When I first arrived, I became protective of my kennel, and it takes me a while to trust new human friends. However, I have formed strong bonds with a few staff members and volunteers over the years who enjoy walking, training, and playing with me. I am in need of an experienced adopter who understands my quirks and protective, loyal nature, someone comfortable with my 100-pound size (that's a lot of charm!). I am seeking a soulmate in the South Florida area willing to invest time in getting to know me at the shelter before I transition to a new home. The shelter staff will demonstrate my leash-walking skills (I am even trained to wear a muzzle) and how quickly I pick up new tricks like speak, paw, and sit. This pair of Bichon / Poodles have been together since they were young and now they are older, mellow guys that are heartbroken to be in a shelter. They are friendly with kids and other dogs and have excellent house manners. Toto is 20lbs and Trumpet needs to shed some weight as he's more like a trombone at 40lbs. Both pups enjoy walks so exercise and a healthy diet will help him slim down.
