Angus, affectionately known as Gus, is an 8 1/2-year-old Black Mouth Cur mix. Gus spent a week with a volunteer who described him as a perfect house guest. He is exceptionally well-mannered, gentle, and polite in the home. He loves meeting kids and is gentle with them. He's goofy and has a playful side as well as being laidback. He weighs 90lbs and is just a big baby that loves to suckle on his bed and blankets. Gus can get over excited to meet other dog friends, but he is dog friendly and we have been working on his leash training, which we will teach his adopter. Austin, a three-year-old shepherd mix, has a sweet and affectionate personality with a very silly goofy side. He loves to give hugs, get belly rubs and play fetch! Austin is about 40lbs of fluff. He learned the sit command in under three minutes so he is very smart and enjoys learning, which is good because we are training him to walk well on a leash and other basic commands. Cooper is a big squish boy that loves to press himself into your arms for hugs! He is very smart and received extensive training thanks to the organization Magic City K9 that accepted Cooper into their unique training program. Cooper was living with his trainer at Everglades Correctional Facility in Miami where Magic City K9 offers its program to give inmates and dogs a second chance to thrive. Cooper has learned many commands (more than 40!). He was friends with most dogs in the training class, but needs a proper introduction to make dog friends. Cooper is a big softie once he knows you, but can be nervous around strangers, so he needs time to trust new people or a low traffic home is best. Fiona is a squishy, wiggly, happy 3-year-old girl. She’s 55 lbs of snuggles and loves nothing more than giving kisses. Fiona has been spending time in a foster home, where she’s earned an A+ report card! Her foster parents say she’s the perfect houseguest—mellow and very well-behaved. Fiona is quiet, potty-trained, crate-trained, and just wants to be where the people are. She’s been going on lots of fun adventures, exploring new things like the beach and boat rides. She loves swimming and is a perfect balance between a couch potato and an adventure buddy. Fiona is friendly with other dogs, though she can be a little bossy, but enjoys going on walks and making friends with dogs that know she’s the queen. Fiona has found the kennel environment stressful, so we’re grateful to her fosters for giving her a break. However, we hope to find her a forever home soon. Joey is a handsome 3-year-old 7 month Shepherd / Hound mix that has come a long way since being chained up in a yard, neglected and starved. Since arriving at Abandoned Pet Rescue, Joey has been in a foster home with another dog and a kind family. They have taught him to walk on a leash and have helped build his confidence. Peter was once on the euthanasia list at an overcrowded shelter, but thanks to Abandoned Pet Rescue, he's now starring on his very own beer label at Gulf Stream Brewery. Move over, celebrity pups—this guy’s got an underbite smile that’s become the face of Four-Legged Lager. And yes, he’s available for belly rubs and pawtographs. Rescued in 2022, Peter Pan went from skin-and-bones to a 50lb bundle of pure quirky joy. This 6-year-old pup has been charming humans for nearly 2 years at the shelter. Spending almost six years in a shelter is quite a long time for a majestic 10 1/2-year-old German Shepherd like me. When I first arrived, I became protective of my kennel, and it takes me a while to trust new human friends. However, I have formed strong bonds with a few staff members and volunteers over the years who enjoy walking, training, and playing with me. I am in need of an experienced adopter who understands my quirks and protective, loyal nature, someone comfortable with my 100-pound size (that's a lot of charm!). I am seeking a soulmate in the South Florida area willing to invest time in getting to know me at the shelter before I transition to a new home.
